CAIRO: A judicial source revealed that Egypt's military prosecution has begun investigating last night's clashes in Cairo's Abbaseya neighborhood. The source added that the prosecution heard about 55 witnesses. Some witnesses confirmed the presence of thugs among the demonstrators. They clarified that those thugs provoked the residents of Abbaseya. Other said the thugs assaulted the demonstators once they reached Abbaseya, adding that the demonstrators defended themselves using stones and bottles. They said the security forces used tear gas to disperse the protesters. The source added that the prosecution will be briefed on the medical reports to know the health conditions of the injured and the reasons that led to the injuries. It added that a fact-finding mission will be formed to investigate in the reasons behind the incident. A security source said the armed forces managed to arrest a number of thugs and suspects and referred them to the prosecution for investigations
