Egyptian forward Mohamed Al-Gabbas helped Lierse beat St. Truiden 2-1 in the Belgian Europa League Playoff. Lierse, who finished 14th in the Belgian league, were lifted by two goals from Al-Gabbas and Victor Bernardez, while Giel Deferm scored for St. Truiden. Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Abdul-Wahed also featured in the game, coming on as a second-half substitute. Lierse, owned by Egyptian businessman Maged Sami, are second in Group A with four points from three games, only one point behind leaders Mechelen.
