Egyptian-owned club Lierse SK continued their dreadful start to their Belgian first-division campaign after suffering a 1-0 defeat by KV Mechelen on Saturday. Yoni Buyens scored the winner four minutes past the hour mark with a looping header. Egyptian striker Dodo Al-Gabbas was included in Lierse's starting line-up but he barely made an impact until being substituted in the 70th minute, making way for Cameroonian Joseph-Desire Job. Al-Gabbas' compatriot Mohamed Abdul-Wahed, who played a key role in helping Lierse seal promotion last season, started on the bench before being introduced with 15 minutes remaining. He whipped in two fine crosses but his teammates could not make the most of them. Winger Ahmed Samir, who seemingly fell down the pecking order, was once again left out of Lierse's squad for the game. Lierse, who are owned by Egyptian businessman Maged Sami, are languishing at the bottom after failing to bag any points. They also lost 1-0 to Sint-Truiden and suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat by Standard Liege in their first two games in the top flight.
