Petrojet are determined to fight for the Egyptian Premier League title until the very end of the season, coach Mokhtar Mokhtar said on Thursday. The petroleum side leapfrogged Ismaili into second place in the table after producing a fine attacking display to defeat them 3-1 away from home. Seven points separates Petrojet from leaders Ahli, who eye a sixth consecutive league crown. If they win their game in hand against Zamalek, they will close to within four points of the Red Devils. "We are determined to maintain our fine run of results. We will prove that we can compete for the title," Mokhtar told a news conference after his side overcame Ismaili. "We have been making progress since our promotion to the Premier League, so the logical outcome is that we should finish on top or at least in second place." Petrojet booked their spot in the top flight in 2006 under the guidance of former Ahli forward Mokhtar. They finished seventh in their first season among the elites and occupied fourth berth the following term. Petrojet qualified for the Confederation Cup to experience African football for the first time in their history after finishing third last season. They were criticized though for failing to keep up momentum during the duration of the season. "We will show this season that we don't play well in the first half of the league only. We are determined to be consistent," Mokhtar added.
