Egyptian forward Mohamed Zidan converted a penalty to help Hamburg crush French side Rennes 3-0 at home in the UEFA Cup on Thursday. Hamburg skipper Rafael van der Vaart opened the scoring in the 33rd minute before Eric Choupo-Moting doubled the lead eight minutes from time. Zidan, who started the game on the bench, replaced Dutch playmaker Van der Vaart three minutes later and soon made an impact. He earned a penalty in stoppage time and notched it home to put the icing on the cake. The victory put Hamburg on top of Group D with six points, two ahead of Basel and Brann Bergen, who come second and third respectively.
