Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population participated on Wednesday in a session to develop a new global strategic mechanism for the health sector on HIV and sexually transmitted diseases.
This came on the sidelines of the 69th session of the Regional Committee for the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Mohamed Hassani, Assistant Minister of Health for Public Health Initiatives, gave Egypt's speech at the meeting, on behalf of Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, the Minister of Health and Population.

In his speech, Hassani reviewed the pioneering experience of the Egyptian state in addressing Hepatitis C, as it is the largest health survey campaign certified by the WHO, pointing out that Egypt was able to prove its efficiency and superior ability in combating Hepatitis B, and preventing the transmission of infection with HIV, Hepatitis B, and syphilis from mother to fetus.
Hassani called on the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region to benefit from Egypt's successful experiences in combating Hepatitis B, C and AIDS viruses, which contributes to accelerating the path to achieving sustainable development goals and eliminating these diseases that threaten public health by 2030.
He noted that these health achievements are an example to integrate national efforts and integrate civil society efforts into the national response, stressing that the Egyptian state spares no effort to help countries with a heavy spread to combat such types of diseases.
Hassani praised the member states that were able to present honorable and ideal models in the face of the emerging coronavirus, pointing out that Egypt is one of the first countries that possesses expertise and experiences, which can be shared and benefited from to determine mechanisms, results and evaluations to eliminate these diseases by 2030.
He stressed that the Ministry of Health and Population will work side by side in cooperation with the health sectors of the countries of the region, civil society organizations and donors, to set standards and policies aimed at advancing the health sectors, raising societal immunity and improving the public health of the peoples of the countries of the region.
