BANGKOK: Thailand has sold 100,000 tons of jasmine rice to Hong Kong at the average price of $1,100 per ton and plans to launch more marketing campaigns to sell more Thai grains to overseas markets, the Thai News Agency (TNA) reported. Thai Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom witnessed the signing of a total of 9 memoranda of understanding or MoUs between Thai rice exporters and Hong Kong importers in Hong Kong on Friday. Boonsong told journalists that more marketing campaigns will be launched to boost Thai rice exports to Hong Kong to about 200,000 tons annually, from the current 160,000-170,000 tons, with one of them being organized at a major mall from November 30 through December 6 in a bid to further promote Thai rice in the business island. According to the commerce minister, similar campaigns will be held in Singapore in the near future.
