Egypt's annual inflation slightly down to 27.1% in June – CAPMAS

Egypt's general consumer price index (CPI) reached 225.6 points in June 2024, marking an annual inflation rate of 27.1 per cent, slightly down from 27.4 per cent in May. The monthly inflation rate rose to 1.8 per cent in June from 0.8 per cent in May.
Key commodity prices decreased: fish and seafood by 0.1 per cent, oils and fats by 0.3 per cent, fruits by 2.6 per cent, and sugar by 1.0 per cent. However, grains and bread prices surged by 13.5 per cent, meat and poultry by 3.7 per cent, and vegetables by 2.3 per cent. Other notable increases included mineral and carbonated waters, ready-made clothes, shoes, and housing costs.
The food and beverages sector saw a 3.0 per cent rise in June, primarily due to higher prices for grains, bread, meat, dairy products, and vegetables. The health sector increased by 2.7 per cent, driven by medical products and equipment.
Annually, the food and beverages sector increased by 30.8 per cent, clothing and footwear by 25.9 per cent, housing by 12.4 per cent, furnishings by 27.0 per cent, health by 26.7 per cent, and transportation by 17.5 per cent.
