Egypt has appointed Khaled Fawzy as acting head of its General Intelligence Service (GIS) to succeed Mohamed Farid El-Tohamy, who has retired from his position for health reasons, sources said. Fawzy was the head of the country's National Security Authority, an organ of the GIS. Tohamy's failing health is behind the move and the decision was not motivated by security concerns, a source at the Egyptian presidency told the press.
