Egyptian political parties condemn US attack on Syria
Published in Albawaba on 09 - 04 - 2017

A number of Egypt's political parties, including Nation's Future, Al-Mohafezeen and Democratic Generation parties condemned the US attacks that targeted a Syrian air base in Ash Sha'irat near Homs late Thursday.
Member of the Higher Committee of Nation's Future Party Nour Abu Hatah said in a statement to Al Bawaba News, the political solution is the best and the only mean to achieve strong and accurate mechanisms to preserve the right of the Syrian people in a dignified and safe life away from killing and vandalism.
Abu Hatah called on conflicting parties to sit down at the table of negotiations, stressing the external intervention in this crisis will only increase the complexity of the crisis.
He condemned the US missile attack on the Syrian air base, calling it unjustified and contradicts all international conventions that preserve the dignity and right of the people to a safe and decent life.
Furthermore, he urged UN Security Council to hold an emergency meeting to discuss all crises of the region and reach an objective solution to them, adding that the continued escalation of killings and destruction would be a gateway to spreading more instability in the Middle East region.
Al-Mohafezeen Party strongly condemned the US attack, saying it was a violation of international law, a support for terrorist organizations and a continuation of the international terrorism policy.
The party said in a statement, the US attack was in violation of the principles of international legitimacy and conventions of the United Nations, pointing out that such attacks strengthen terrorism and complicate the crisis in Syria even more.
In addition, the party explained that the US attack intended to relieve the internal pressure on US President Donald Trump on one hand and to satisfy certain allied countries of the US on the other.
Chairman of the Democratic Generation Party (DGP) Naji Al-Shihabi urged the Egyptian government to condemn the US attack that targeted a Syrian.
Al-Shihabi said in a statement the US missile attack of 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles on Ash Sha'irat air base, which thwarted an attack by Israeli aircrafts two weeks ago, is a terrorist act in favor of Israel and against the Charter of the United Nations.
He demanded the US be held accountable for its actions, claiming that it has established itself as the world's policeman, describing the attack as an aggression that violates all international laws and sends false messages to terrorist groups, which have chemical weapons in their arsenal.
"Unfortunately, spies and traitors cheered and welcomed the US aggression, while the Arab nation is silent, as if it is waiting to see who will be targeted next," the statement read.
The party chairman warned against Western and Zionist plans to plug the Middle East region into chaos, and gain control of the region and the fate of regional countries, such as Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
He added the Arab League has become a tool in the hands of the US and NATO, over the past 10 years.
"Will it (Arab League) remain silent towards the US raid for so long?! Why did not Egypt invite the Security Council to hold a session to discuss the US aggression like Bolivia or the new relationship with the US as an ally prevents us from doing our duty towards our brothers?" he wondered.
