Egyptian Ambassador to Tunisia Ahmed Ismail said today that there was low participation of Egyptian expatriates in Tunisia in this week's runoff for the first phase of parliamentary elections. Ismail said only 38 percent of expats in Tunisia voted in the runoff, while 61 percent voted in last week's first round elections. Yet despite the low turnout, Ismail said this round witnessed wide participation from the Egyptian expatriates in south Tunisia. "The embassy finished the vote counting process today at noon,” said Ismail, adding that some expats attended the counting at the Egyptian embassy. Ismail said the Egyptian Foreign Ministry was informed of the results, and it will send them on to the Supreme Electoral Committee. He also said all ballots and vote counting documents in the diplomatic pouch will be sent to Cairo.
