Arabic:عصام على عطية Essam Ali Atta died on October 26, 2011. His family and Egyptian activists say Atta, 23, was tortured to death inside Tora Prison, where he was serving a two-year sentence. They say prison security forced a water hose into Atta's mouth and another into his anus and pumped his body full of water as punishment for smuggling a mobile phone SIM card into his jail cell. Security sources refute the claim, saying instead that Atta died of a drug overdose after he swallowed a large amount of drugs in an attempt to hide them from prison security. Egyptian activists have nicknamed Atta the ‘Second Khaled Said.' Said also died under disputed circumstances while in police custody, on June 6, 2010. His supporters say he was beaten to death, while those accused maintain he suffocated after swallowing a baggie of drugs. Said's death became a rallying point for Egyptians, and is considered to be one of the catalysts of Egypt's January 25 Revolution.
