CAIRO: Members of the Cairo bureau of the Egyptian Alliance in Europe will stage a protest tomorrow, Friday, outside the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They are calling to activate the court verdict regarding the right of Egyptians abroad to vote. On Tuesday, the Egyptian Administrative Court ordered the Egyptian government to form electoral voting centers in Egyptian Embassies abroad, enabling expatriate Egyptians to vote in upcoming parliamentary elections. A number of Egyptian expatriate who live in Europe, headed by Essam Abdel Samad, filed a lawsuit to form voting centers in Egyptian embassies worldwide. The suit names as defendants the chairman of the High Electoral Committee, Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), SCAF head Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, Prime Minister Essam Sharaf, and Minister of Interior Mansour el-Issawi The group noted that the SCAF vowed more than once to grant Egyptians abroad the right to vote, but never delivered on their promise. Elections for the People's Assembly, the lower house of Egypt's bicameral parliament, are scheduled to begin November 28. It will be Egypt's first election since a popular uprising toppled three-decade ruler Hosni Mubarak and his regime earlier this year.
