Thirty soldiers were injured today when two lorries collided inside the Martyr Ahmed Hamdy tunnel in Suez tonight. A lorry belonging to the Third Army carried 26 soldiers and a lorry belonging to Suez Security Directorate carried four. Chancellor Adel Refaat, assistant minister of interior, received a notification about the accident and the chancellor and number of third army leaders directed an investigation to inspect what happened. Some of the soldiers received cuts and small wounds, but no one was killed. Gen. Sedky Sobhy Alsayed, leader of the Third Field Army, ordered all injured soldiers transferred to Agroud Military Hospital on Suez highway. Those responsible for the tunnel said traffic in the tunnel will be halted for a while, until all cars involved in the accident are removed. A total of five cars were involved in the accident. There was no damage to the tunnel itself.
