CAIRO: Celebrated Egyptian Ahmed Shahat left Giza Prosecution headquarters today after being questioned in connection to a claim lodged by Mustafa Kamel, an Egyptian claiming to be the real “flagman.” Shahat became an overnight Egyptian hero after scaling the Giza building housing the Israel embassy and replacing the Star of David flag with the Egyptian flag. The prosecution summoned Kamel, Shahat and an eyewitness, a woman who resides on the eighth floor of a building adjacent to the Israeli embassy. Shahat testified that while Egyptian demonstrators on the street below chanted slogans about the Israeli attack on Egyptian security personnel, he scaled the building and replaced the Israeli flag. On his way down, the eyewitness woman on the eighth floor invited him into her flat and gave him a glass of water, Shahat added. “I do not mind facing Kamel,” said Shahat, adding that he still receives death threats for his role in the protest.
