Egypt's first humanitarian aid convoy to Somalia returned to Suez Saturday after delivering supplies to refugees. From Suez, the convoy traveled to Kenya with 179,800 EGP (U.S. $30,000) from donors in Suez. They purchased 21 camels, eight tons of sugar, two tons of flour, nine tons of rice, and 196 cartons of cooking oil. The aid was transferred by plane to the "Dadaab" refugee camp in southern Somalia, which contains 475,000 refugees. The head of the mission, Sheikh Ibrahim Maghrebi, told Youm 7 that the situation in Somalia is worsening. Maghrebi said the number of children dying and the rate of disease are both increasing. Maghrebi said the situation could extend to Somalia's neighbor Kenya. Dr. Kamal Barbarry, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Suez and the director of aid convoys destined for Somalia, is preparing for a large number of convoys of food and medical aid to depart after to Somalia Eid al-Fitr .
