Egypt is capable of protecting its borders and securing Sinai, and Egyptian land will remain free despite those who try to undermine the will of the Egyptian people, according to members of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF). Members made this declaration during a conference to discuss recent security incidents held by the ruling military council with the people of South Sinai. “All Egyptian people, including the Bedouin community, should mobilize to protect every inch of Sinai land,” said a member of the council. Attending the conference was ruling council member Gen. Adel Aumara, Sinai tribe sheikhs, priests, imams and representatives from the tourism industry. General Aumara opened the conference by expressing deep condolences on behalf of Field Marshal Tantawi, the leader of the military council, for the deaths of several Egyptian security personnel last week. “Sinai is a precious part of Egyptian soil, it is the religious cradle and it is where Egypt triumphed militarily,” Aumara said. “We urge you to preserve Egypt's national security especially after the October victory.” “There are security problems in Sinai and we wish to solve them with the cooperation of the people in Sinai,” said Deputy Minister of Interior Gen. Mahmoud Youssry. There were also discussions regarding new Sinai projects including those to stimulate job opportunities.
