The military prosecutor today decided to refer Asmaa Mahfouz, a leader in the April 6 Youth Movement and a political activist, to a military court on charges of insulting the military and inciting to violence. Mahfouz was interrogated yesterday and released on 20,000 EGP bail (U.S. $3,350). Investigators held Mahfouz yesterday for five hours after she was arrested on charges of incitement to violence, spreading rumors and publicly libeling the military. Mahfouz was charged in connection to, among other things, a Twitter post in which she wrote, “If the judiciary won't bring the people their rights, we won't be silent.” Members of the Popular Movement for the Protection of the Revolution decided to postpone their protest outside the military council building until an unknown date.
