Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed was not surprised to miss out on Egypt's squad for the Brazil friendly as he is adamant that the decision came from goalkeeping coach Zaki Abdul-Fattah. The Zamalek skipper was overlooked as new coach Bob Bradley named 22 players for the November 14 game, recalling Merreikh's unsettled veteran Essam Al-Hadari. While the decision raised a few eyebrows, Abdul-Wahed says he expected the snub. “I think the decision is not technical,” Abdul-Wahed told former Egypt goalie Ahmed Shobeir in Modern Kora TV. “I saw Zaki Abdul-Fattah talking about me before he took the Egypt job. He said Abdul-Wahed is a good goalkeeper but is not an international. “The man does not have faith in me, so normally I won't be there and I was sure about that. Anyway I am not disappointed even though I've never been out of the national team when I'm fit.”
At least I'm playing Abdul-Wahed rejected the notion that his omission is due to a dip in form, indirectly referring that he is playing more regular football than Egypt number one Al-Hadari. “I don't think I was that bad and even if there were mistakes, at least I'm playing,” the 33-year-old added. “I will work harder with my club and I am confident I will be with the national team. I won't be there by talking but I will earn my return. “And even if he (Abdul-Fattah) is not convinced I should be there, I'm telling him that I will be with the national team.” Abdul-Wahed, who made more than seven saves in Zamalek's 2-1 defeat to Police Union on Tuesday, conceded five goals in as many games with his club so far in the league.
