Bayern Munich continued their inconsistent run after throwing away their lead to draw 1-1 at home to Schalke in the Bundesliga on Saturday. The Bavarian giants, who were handed a 2-0 defeat to French champions Bordeaux in the midweek Champions League tie, took the lead on 31 minutes. A free-kick accidentally struck the head of Schalke striker Kevin Kuranyi and fell to Belgian defender Daniel van Buyten, who slotted into an empty net from three yards out. Teenager Joel Matip leveled the score just before the break when he towered above Bayern's defense to head home a free-kick. Bayern, who have 20 points from 12 games, lie eighth in the league table, six behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen who thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0 on Friday. Schalke, who last won the German championship in 1958, remain in fourth spot with 22 points.
