Mohamed Zidan wasted a glorious opportunity to open the scoring but Borussia Dortmund still managed to claim a 2-0 home victory over Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga on Friday. The Egyptian international, who has been in sparkling form recently, played as an attacking midfielder alongside Nelson Valdez to support lone striker Lucas Barrios. He almost broke the deadlock after 32 minutes when he superbly skipped past Hertha's Serbian defender Nemanja Pejcinovic inside the area but astonishingly blasted his shot high over the bar. Zidan, who scored one league goal so far this season, was a lively performer throughout and repeatedly unsettled Hertha's defense. He was substituted in the 70th minute, making way for Bulgarian striker Dimitar Rangelov. Dortmund took the lead on the hour mark when German-born Turkish midfielder Nuri Sahin converted a penalty. In-form Argentinean striker Barrios wrapped up the win in stoppage time with a brilliant shot on the turn from inside the area. Dortmund, who suffered an embarrassing exit from the German Cup round of 16 after losing to third-tier Osnabruck, are ninth in the 18-team league table with 16 points.
