Petrojet gave coach Mokhtar Mokhtar a vote of confidence on Saturday despite the team's recent poor results. The Petroleum club were deemed title contenders earlier in the season following a string of impressive displays and results. They approached the mid-season break with eight victories and six draws under their belt, losing only once to league holders Ahli. But a sudden dip in form saw their hopes of competing for the title die away. Petrojet were also outshone by Ismaili in their race to acquire a historic Champions League spot. But the club's board intends to keep hold of Mokhtar, who steered the team to Premier League promotion in 2006. "The idea of sacking Mokhtar did not cross our minds," Petrojet football supervisor Mounir Kamel told FilGoal.com. "We held a meeting with the technical staff following our defeat to Zamalek and told them they would remain at the helm. "We have no intention of appointing German coach Theo Bucker like some reports suggested." Petrojet will be looking to hold onto their third-place position to book a place in the CAF Confederation Cup.
