Hamburg SV closed to within one point of Bundesliga leaders Hertha Berlin with a 2-1 win at Schalke 04 on Sunday. After a goalless first half, Jose Guerrero broke the deadlock on 71 minutes when he took advantage of a Manuel Neuer blunder. Four minutes after, the Peruvian hitman diverted a Marcell Jansen cross into the net from close range. Jefferson Farfan netted a dubious goal for Schalke ten minutes from the final whistle after connecting with a Kevin Kuranyi cross. The visitors called on the referee to disallow Farfan's strike for offside, but to no avail. Fourth-placed Hamburg are now on 48 points, whereas Schalke remain eighth with 37 points.
