Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of midfielder Wilson Palacios from Wigan, both clubs said on Wednesday. A fee has been agreed for the Honduran, who also passed a medical at White Hart Lane and only awaits a new work permit to seal the move. The undisclosed deal is believed to be around ₤14million as Wigan boss Steve Bruce declared that 'the club record transfer fee will be smashed'. Wigan landed the tenacious midfielder for ₤1million from Honduras' Olimpia in January 2008. Palacios has been a prominent figure in the Latics' midfield since the start of the season, helping Amr Zaki's side to the top half of the Premiership table. The 24-year-old becomes Harry Redknapp's second signing this winter, following Jermain Defoe's move from Portsmouth. His arrival minimizes the chances of Spurs' out-of-favor midfielder Hossam Ghaly, who is yet to make an appearance for the London club in almost two years. The Egyptian, who failed to make up for his notorious shirt tantrum in May 2007, is currently linked with a loan move to Saudi Arabia's Nasr.
