A 90th minute header from defender Maynor Figueroa handed Wigan three precious points against Tottenham in the Premiership on Sunday. The Honduran's strike helped Amr Zaki's team maintain their position in seventh place with 31 points, whilst Spurs are third from bottom with 20. Zaki teamed up with usual strike partner Emile Heskey in attack, but at the other end, there was no place for Egypt midfielder Hossam Ghaly. Spurs new signing Jermain Defoe was immediately rushed into action as he partnered Roman Pavlyuchenko upfront. The home side dictated long spells of the first half, but could not pose much threat on Heurelho Gomes despite the lively presence of Zaki. The Egyptian saw his 33rd minute header sailing inches wide of the right post, following Ryan Taylor's free kick. But Wigan's best chance came in the 38th minute when Zaki outpaced Michael Dawson before delivering a precise cross to Heskey, whose close-range effort was blocked by Gomes. The second half was not much better than the first, and another goalless draw between the two sides seemed imminent. However, the deadlock was broken in injury time by the most unlikely of sources, when Figueroa converted Taylor's inviting corner to bag the points for the Latics.
