Ghanaian forward Shaibu Yakubu, who was close to joining Zamalek, has been snapped up by Telecom Egypt on a free transfer, the latter said on Tuesday. Telecom chairman Mohamed Abdul-Rahim confirmed that the 22-year-old's signature from Turkey's Hacettepe Spor is only subject to a medical on Tuesday. "We agreed terms with Yakubu and he will sign a contract on Tuesday after he completes a medical," the Telecom chief told FilGoal.com. Yakubu began his career at local club Ashanti Gold before moving to Hacettepe in the summer. The promising frontman, who can play as an attacking midfielder and as a striker, is a regular member of Ghana's U-21 team. FilGoal.com reported on Friday that Zamalek were tracking Yakubu, who is not the first foreign player to drift off the Cairo club's grasp. Zamalek missed out on Petrojet's new signing Eric Bekoe last week, as the Ghanaian joined the petroleum side from Asante Kotoko.
