Newly-promoted side Asyut Petroleum got off their Egyptian League campaign to a winning start following a 1-0 victory over Tersana on Saturday. Veteran midfielder Ateya Saber scored the winner after converting a penalty in the 16th minute. Asyut Petroleum, who eliminated Cairo giants Ahli from last season's Egyptian Cup, could have doubled their advantage shortly after. A fierce shot from newly-arrived striker Mohamed Reio rattled the post. Tersana's Hossam Mabrouk almost claimed the equalizer in the 70th minute but his curling free-kick was denied by the post.
