Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson heaped praise upon Paul Scholes in the wake of the latter's crucial winner against Barcelona in the Champions League semis. The veteran midfielder hit a superb strike, which turned out to be the decider of the both legs versus the 2006 European champions. Scholes was part of United's 1999 Champions League winning squad but missed the final against Bayern Munich at Nou Camp through suspension. "It is great for Paul to be in the final," Ferguson said after Tuesday's 1-0 win at Old Trafford. "He is one of the great players, he came through the ranks at the club and I am so pleased for him. "It was a fantastic goal. You can't expect him to score 15 or 20 goals a season for you now like he did when was younger. "But when he gets one like that it makes up for the ones he can't score because of his age. It was a marvelous moment for him." Scholes, who has over 60 caps for England, spent his entire career under Ferguson's management at United. Fergie believes his side deserved a place in the final as he awaits the winner of the all-English clash between Chelsea and Liverpool. "It does not matter who we play, we deserve to be there. Our form throughout the tournament has been fantastic, we have shown good discipline and been tactically very good," added the Scot.
