Inter Milan regained their six-point lead over Roma after beating Palermo 2-1 at home in the Serie A on Sunday. French midfielder Patrick Vieira put Inter in front after five minutes when he was picked out by Zlatan Ibrahimovic's delicate chip to head home from close range. An own goal by Marco Materazzi gave Palermo the equalizer in the 25th minute. Inter keeper Julio Cesar weakly parried Fabio Simplicio's shot and the ball ricocheted off Materazzi's knee and into the back of the net. Chilean midfielder Luis Jimenez sealed the victory for Inter nine minutes before the break with a low shot from inside the area after being fed by Brazilian full-back Maicon. The victory cemented Inter's position on top of the league table with 67 points, six ahead of second-placed Roma, who secured a precious 2-1 victory over Milan on Saturday. Palermo's hopes of securing a UEFA Cup spot faded as they lie ninth on 36 points.
