Werder Bremen punished Real Madrid for their sloppy defending to win 3-2 at home and keep alive their hopes of reaching the UEFA Champions League knock-out phase. Robinho's strike cancelled out Markus Rosenberg's opener but two strikes from Boubacar Sanogo and Aaron Hunt ensured Bremen are still in command. Ruud Van Nistelrooy pulled one back but his goal was not enough to help Real secure an equalizer. Despite the defeat, Real are in still in charge of Group C with eight points, ahead of second-placed Olympiakos on goal difference after the Greek side defeated Lazio 2-1. Bremen lie third on six points points and have to beat Olympiakos in the last match to go through. Bottom side Lazio are a further point behind but still have a chance to progress. Poor Defense In the absence of Fabio Cannavaro, who was kept on the bench, Pepe partnered Christopher Metzelder in the heart of Real's defense. However, Los Merengues backline was in a state of disarray, paving the way for Bremen forwards to threat keeper Ilker Casillas. The unmarked Rosenberg put the hosts ahead after five minutes, controlling a cross from the right and poking home with ease past Casillas. The in-form Robinho leveled the score nine minutes later after curling a sublime shot into the net after being set-up by Brazilian left-back Marcelo.
Galletti scored for Olympiakos But once again Real's poor defense cost Bernd Schuster's side, allowing Sanogo to restore Bremen's lead five minutes before the break. The Ivorian striker got ahead of Pepe to volley home Rosenberg's cross from the right flank. Hunt added the third in the 58th minute when he latched on to a deft pass from the halfway line to go clear and slot past the hapless Casillas. Van Nistelrooy, who missed a glorious opportunity moments before, narrowed the gap in the 71st minute with a chip from a tight angle. Bremen held on to their lead to claim the vital three points. Lazio Stunned Olympiakos came from a goal down to stun Lazio 2-1 and edge closer to a place in the knock-out stage. Goran Pandev broke the deadlock in the 30th minute before Luciano Galletti grabbed the equalizer five minutes later. Darko Kovacevic notched the decisive winner four minutes past the hour mark.
