Naldo was at fault for both goals as Lazio registered a 2-1 home victory over Werder Bremen in UEFA Champions League Group C action on Tuesday. Tommaso Rocchi scored twice for the Biancocelesti while Diego notched the consolation for the German club. Both sides finished with 10 men on the field, with Sanchez Cribari and Diego receiving their marching orders. Lazio were awarded a deserved penalty in the 57th minute when Naldo made a rash tackle on Mourad Meghni in the area. Rocchi's initial shot was blocked by Tim Wiese but the Italian striker was on alert to slot home on the rebound. The prolific frontman doubled the lead eight minutes past the hour mark, taking advantage of disastrous defending by Naldo. Rocchi escaped the attention of the Brazilian defender to receive a long ball and go one-on-one before coolly chipping the ball over Wiese. Cribari was sent-off four minutes from time after collecting a second booking for bringing down Per Mertesacker in the area.
Van Nistelrooy hit the bar Diego stepped up to smash into the roof of the net and notch the consolation for the visitors. The Brazilian playmaker was dismissed in stoppage time for a second bookable offense. In the other group game, Greek side Olympiakos held Real Madrid to a goalless home draw. Midway through the first-half, Wesley Sneijder's corner at the near post found Mahamadou Diarra, whose flick was denied by the crossbar. Ruud van Nistelrooy almost broke the deadlock in the 35th minute when he went clear on goal before lopping the ball over keeper Antonios Nikopolidis but his effort stuck the outside of the bar. Raul tried to make the follow-up but his header went wide. Neither side was able to score in the second-period as the match finished goalless. Real Madrid are on top of the group with eight points, three ahead of Olympiakos and Lazio. Bremen lie at the bottom on three points.
