Wayne Rooney notched home his first goal of the season to lead Manchester United to a 1-0 home victory over Roma in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. The England striker scored the winner in the 70th minute when he drilled a superb right-footed shot into the bottom corner after being set-up by Nani's through pass. Chances were few and far between as both sides rarely created clear-cut chances. Roma and Untied tried to break the deadlock through set-pieces from Francesco Totti and Cristiano Ronaldo respectively. United's 100% record put them on top of Group F with six points, three ahead of second-placed Roma, who failed to avenge their humiliated 7-1 defeat at the hands of the Red Devils last season. Sporting Lisbon are third due to their inferior goal difference to Roma after defeating Dynamo Kiev 2-1. Antonio Tonel stunned the home crowd in the 14th minute before Vladislav Vaschuk drew Kiev level in the 28th minute. Anderson Polga sealed the victory for the Portuguese giants ten minutes later.
