Former Al-E'lameyin player Mostafa Abdul-Rahim pressed charges against striker Ahmed Hossam 'Mido', accusing the Tottenham player of deliberately injuring him and ending his football career. The 28-year-old claimed in April that Mido made a deliberate tackle against him during a friendly game in 2004 between the Egyptian national team and the third division club. Now Abdul-Rahim is saying that he tried to get compensation in a friendly way, but his attempts were not successful, so he was forced to take legal action. "I tried to solve the problem with Mido during the past three years in a friendly manner, I asked for financial compensation to undergo further operations, but it didn't work," Abdul-Rahim told FilGoal.com in an exclusive interview. "I also tried other options when I contacted the likes of (EFA vice-president) Ahmed Shobeir, (national team coach) Hassan Shehata and his assistant Shawki Gharib and (veteran striker) Hossam Hassan, but I just got false promises." Mido's ill-fated challenge resulted in a complete damage in Abdul-Rahim's knee, leaving him with a torn cruciate ligament and interior ligament damage as well as a damaged knee cartilage.
Mido is accusing Abdul-Rahim of trying to blackmail him Abdul-Rahim conceded that Mido will be summoned to a hearing in court, with the charge of causing a permanent injury. "He will be asked for an explanation in court, and I will take further legal action to get an adequate compensation," he added. Mido responded to Abdul-Rahim's earlier claims last April, insisting that he covered all the expenses of the surgery and rehabilitation, which cost him EGP 20,000. A video of the incident
