Egypt coach Hassan Shehata has named a 25-man squad to enter a training camp in Cairo on Saturday. Star playmaker Mohamed Abou-Treika was omitted from the camp due to injury while Ahli teammates Mohamed Shawki and Wael Gomaa received a call up after recovering from their respective injuries. Ismaili's Mohamed Fadl and Arab Contractors defender Rami Adel also missed out on a call up through injury. Shehata, who announced the squad on Thursday, said that the camp will take place in the suburb of Masr AL Gadida and will run for four days. The veteran coach said that he did not call up Egypt's Europe-based players since the camp conflicted with their local leagues schedules. None of Zamalek's players were also called up because of their commitment with the team in the Arab Champions League. Second division players Moetaz Mahrous (Bani Suef Telecom) and Mohamed Naguib (Baladeyt Mahalla) received their first call up to the national team. Shehata said that Saturday's camp will be followed by a second one that begins on February 2nd as the African champions prepare to face Sweden in an international friendly to celebrate the golden jubilee of CAF.
Abou-Treika The match will take place in Cairo on February 7th. “The names of the Europe-based players for the second camp will be announced on January 23rd while the rest of the squad will be named on February 1st,” said Shehata.
