Ahly reaffirm Treika injury
Published in Daily News Egypt on 23 - 12 - 2009

CAIRO: Ahly are set to file Mohamed Abou-Trika s medical report to the Egyptian FA, stressing that he should be ruled out of the 2010 African Cup of Nations.
Treika was a surprise inclusion in Egypt s provisional roster for next month s showdown, even though the 31-year-old has a foot injury.
Egypt manager Hassan Shehata said on Tuesday that Abou-Trika will have a fitness test before the final squad is announced, but Ahly seem to be first in their stance.
We will send Abou-Trika s medical report to the Football Association, explaining that he has a metatarsal stress fracture, Ahly sporting director Hadi Khashaba told the club s official site.
He will be fit after 40 days and thus shouldn't play in the Nations Cup.
In the same context, Egypt assistant coach Shawki Gharib insisted that Abou-Trika wouldn't play through injury, despite his importance to the team.
We saw little hope of having Abou-Trika fit at some point during the tournament, that's why he was included, Gharib told Dream TV.
In CAN 2008, Abou-Trika missed the preparation and the opening game, yet he scored the goal that gave us the title in the final.
We will totally conform to his medical report. If he continues to suffer, it is impossible that he'd play.
According to reports in Egypt, Shehata is willing to include Treika in his final roster due to his influence on the squad, even if the midfield talisman is unfit to play.
Egypt already miss striker Amr Zaki and midfielder Mohamed Barakat through injury, while Ahmed "Mido Hossam is a slight doubt for the Angola finals.
Meanwhile, a few players earned their first Egypt call-up, including Ahly in-form keeper Ahmed Adel and midfielder Mostafa Shebeita.
Zamalek full-back Mohamed Abdel-Shafi and Ittihad forward Mohamed Nagi Geddo have also made the list.
Nassr midfielder Hossam Ghaly was named at the expense of Middlesbrough s Mohamed Shawky, who has yet to appear for his club this term.
Zamalek defender Mahmoud Fathallah and Petrojet forward Al-Sayed Hamdi returned after recovering from long-term injuries.
Surprisingly, there was no place for Ismaili schemer Mohamed Hommos, who regularly featured for the national team of late.
Egypt Squad:
Goalkeepers: Essam Al-Hadari (Ismaili), Ahmed Adel (Ahly), Abdel-Wahed Al-Sayed (Zamalek), Mahmoud Aboul-Saoud (Mansoura).
Defenders: Wael Gomaa, Sayed Moawad, Ahmed Fathi, Sherif Abdul-Fadil (Ahly), Mahmoud Fathallah, Hani Saied, Mohamed Abdul-Shafi, Hazem Emam (Zamalek), Moatassem Salem, Ahmed Samir Farag (Ismaili), Ahmed Al-Muhammadi (ENPPI), Abdul-Zaher Al-Saqqa (Eskisehirspor, Turkey).
Midfielders: Ahmed Hassan, Mohamed Abou-Treika, Mostafa Shebeita (Ahly), Shikabala (Zamalek), Abdul-Aziz Tawfik (ENPPI), Walid Soliman, Mohamed Shaaban (Petrojet), Ahmed Eid (Harras Hodoud), Hosni Abd-Rabou (Ahly, UAE), Hossam Ghaly (Nassr, Saudi Arabia).
