David Villa scored twice to lead Valencia to a 2-0 home win over Ukraine's Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. The Spanish international notched a brace in the first-half as Valencia maintained their 100% record in the group stage. Shakhtar played with 10 men in the last 15 minutes after defender Viacheslav Sviderski was sent-off for two bookable offenses. Valencia are in charge of Group D with nine points while Shakhtar lie in the bottom with just one point. Villa opened the score in the 31st minute when he capitalized on a poor defending by Shakhtar's back line before rounding the keeper and slotting the ball into the empty net.
Joaquin crosses to Villa Valencia widened the gap before going to the lockers room thanks to some brilliant work by right-winger Joaquin. The former Real Betis midfielder side-stepped Shakhtar skipper Anatolii Tymoschuk down the right before swinging a pinpoint cross at the far post to Villa, who headed the ball home from close range. Elsewhere, Simone Perrotta scored to help Italy's AS Roma snatch a 1-0 win over Greek side Olympiacos at the Karaiskaki stadium. Unmarked Perrotta connected with Aleandro Rosi's low cross in the 76th minute to poke home past Olympiacos Greece international keeper Antonis Nikopolidis. The victory placed Roma in second place of Group D with six points while Olympiacos are third with one point.
