Roman Calderon has been voted the new chairman of Real Madrid on Monday after claiming a hard-fought victory over main challenger Juan Palacios, Spanish media said. The club's former director collected 246 votes more than Palacios and coasted past the three other candidates, Juan Miguel Villar Mir, Lorenzo Sanz and Arturo Baldasano. "After the existence of a judicial decision that has suspended the postal vote, the club named Ramon Calderon as the new president of Real Madrid," Spanish papers quoted a club spokesman as saying in a press conference. The postal vote was suspended after candidates expressed concerns over its legitimacy. The postal votes were estimated at 10,000. Some 42% of the 66,355 club members who have the right to vote took part in the elections on Sunday. Calderon, 55, was a member of the Real board of directors during the spell of former president Florentino Perez.
