Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney says he's 300% confident he will compete in the World Cup as England awaits the final test results on his injury. Rooney is not alone as coach Sven Goran Eriksson has never wavered in the belief that the Manchester United player would rejoin the squad for the finals. "I have been saying for one month that I'm sure he will take part," Eriksson said as reported by BBC Sport on Wednesday morning. "I'm confident he will take part in the World Cup and he is 300% confident he will play." Eriksson is waiting by the phone to hear how the recovery has been progressing and whether Rooney, who has increased his training in the past few days, will fly back to Germany to rejoin the squad. "I think he looks very good - but let the surgeons and the specialists have their say," said Eriksson.
The scan is scheduled to take place around noon today in Manchester. United doctor Tony Gill will discuss the results with specialists at the hospital. If the medical team cannot agree on whether the 20-year-old striker is fit to play, an independent consultant could be brought in to make the final decision. The final deadline for the decision on whether to replace Rooney is 24 hours before the team's opening match against Paraguay on Saturday. While the call could be made as late as Friday, an announcement is expected to be made early Thursday. "I look forward to the point when we don't discuss scans and Rooney's foot any more," Eriksson said. If Rooney is deemed unfit he will be replaced with Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe who traveled with the English contingent to Germany.
