Turkish and Egyptian officials held a meeting on Saturday in Istanbul, headed by Deputy Turkish Prime Minister Ali Babacan. Essam el-Haddad, Assistant to President Mohamed Morsi, Minister of Finance Mumtaz el-Saaed and Minister of Planning and International Co-operation Ashraf al-Araby also participated in the meeting. The officials discussed recent developments in their countries, potential areas for co-operation, trade relations and investment opportunities, said a press release issued by the Turkish Embassy in Egypt on Saturday. Both parties agreed on a framework for a $2 billion financing package, of which $1 billion will be in the form of bilateral loans. The package aims to help shore up foreign currency reserves and the Egyptian government's infrastructure investment plans, which in turn will contribute to economic stability and growth.
