Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Abou Mazen arrived in Cairo on Wednesday on his first visit to Egypt after the January 25 Revolution. The aim of this visit is to push the peace process forward and to discuss the efforts of reconciliation between the Fatah and Hamas movements, close sources told The Gazette online. The Palestinian president, accompanied by a high-level delegate, will stay in Cairo for four days. Palestinian Ambassador to Cairo Barakat el-Fraa said that Abbas was keen to meet the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, headed by Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, and Prime Minister Essam Sharam "as Egypt supports the Palestinian cause due to its vital role in the region". Abbas was a frequent visitor to Egypt during the Mubarak reign.
