CAIRO Airport Company has passed its emergency drill with success. The test, undergone every two years, according to the legislation of the International Air Carrier Organisation (ICAO) and the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, aims at enhancing training for airport employees and personnel for dealing with any given accident or emergency. Ibrahim Manna, the Chairman of the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Navigation and Sameh Hefni, Head of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, witnessed the test from the operations centre in the Crisis Management Department of Cairo International Airport last week. The test was carried out under the supervision of Mohamed el-She'shai, the Vice Chairman of Cairo Airport Company. The test started with alarms, announcing the collision of an aircraft with at least 80 passengers on board with a cargo bridge, resulting in one wing on fire and leaking fuel. Fire engines arrived at the scene. They succeeded in extinguishing the fire and evacuating the plane. Around 40 injured passengers were taken to emergency rooms and the uninjured to transit lounges. After the implementation of the 60-minute test, Hassan Rashed, the Chairman and CEO of Cairo Airport Company, announced that the test cost around LE500,000. Meanwhile, Mohamed el-She'sha'i, the Vice-President of Cairo Airport Company, stated that the preparation for the test took four months and started by preparing all airport systems, training every system in their assigned role in the accident. Acollective training was carried out, ending with a meeting to discuss negative consequences and means of avoiding them. The emergency drill took place under the supervision of inspectors from the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority. AACO meets in Beirut The Arab Air Carrier Organisation's executive committee met recently in Beirut, followed by the General Assembly meeting. During a brief visit to Beirut, Hussein Massoud, Chairman of EgyptAir Holding Company participated in the meetings, as he is one of the permanent members of the executive committee among 9 other members. "The meetings focused on co-ordination between Arab airlines, concerning maintenance and technical support for aircraft and their engines," he said. Developing IT system in TB1 Cairo Airport Company has wrapped up its modernisation of IT systems attached to the airline counters in TB1. Sherif el-Wakil, the Executive Manager of TB1, said that this was part of a framework of continuing development plans of Cairo International Airport, adding that high-tech systems had been added for serving passengers, facilitating their travelling procedure more efficiently and quickly.
EgyptAir Maintenance Centre at Mersa Allam EL-KHERAFI Group has selected EgyptAir Maintenance and Engineering to set up a technical maintenance centre at Mersa Allam airport. The contract was signed by Abdel Aziz Fadel, the Chairman of EgyptAir Maintenance and Engineering, and Ibrahim Saleh, the Head of el-Kherafi Group in Cairo. "The competition was hard; choosing our company was proof of our good reputation and statue among companies in this field," said Fadel, adding that the company had now 102 customers from Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The Mersa Allam airport is an international airport, located 60 kilometres from the city of Mersa Allam, Red Sea governorate.
Massoud feted at Lions Club
AT a well-attended gala at Lions Club in el-Qattamiya, Hussein Massoud, the Chairman and CEO of EgyptAir Holding Company, was honoured, receiving the club award for his leading role and his belief in the importance of the social corporate responsibility, sustainable development, and training of human resources and for achieving high-quality levels. Massoud stressed during his address that EgyptAir, the national carrier, would witness huge development at all levels in the near future. He pointed out that EgyptAir took steps to train and develop human resources by organising workshops for employees and ways to deal with human resources, as they were the vital pillar of any company. He mentioned that EgyptAir was keen on expanding its network and developing its fleet, which now comprises 73 aircraft, as it received the A330-300, Boeing 777-800 and Boeing 777-300 last year. According to him, the company is going to host the AGM meeting of the International Air Transportation Association (IATA) next June.
