CAIRO - Due to heavy fog, three flights bound for Burg el-Arab International Airport in Alexandria had to be rerouted to Cairo International Airport. The passengers, mostly pilgrims, held a 12-hour protest before they were flown to the Mediterranean city, an aviation official in Cairo said. "Visibility was less than 200 metres. Therefore, we asked the pilots on three Alexandria-bound flights to land in Cairo," the official said. He pointed out that one flight came from Sharjah Airport in the UAE while the other two departed from Saudi Arabia's Jeddah. Upon their arrival, the passengers from the two Jeddah flights, mostly pilgrims, refused to leave the planes and asked to be flown to Alexandria. "Cairo Airport authorities had them flown to their home city within hours when visibility was back ," the official was quoted by Egypt's Middle East News Agency (MENA) as saying. The weather forecast reports partly cloudy conditions for today with a drop in temperatures. There could be local rain showers and a few thunderstorms, mostly in northern and eastern Egypt.
