CAIRO-Smugglers trying to take African migrants across the border into Israel shot and wounded two Egyptian policemen on Friday in a shoot-out, security sources said. The sources identified the wounded policemen as Mohamed Rushdi Saleh, 21, and 21-year-old Amr Ibrahim el- Sayyed, who were hit by bullets in the leg and arm. Mohamed and Amr were in a stable condition in el-Arish General Hospital. The sources said at least four smugglers fled from the border area deeper into Egypt after the gunfight. Smuggling, of both goods and people, is common along the Egypt-Israel desert border, but it is rare for police to be wounded in confrontations.
