CAIRO, Oct 5, 2018 (MENA) – Egypt is committed to backing efforts aiming at bringing peace and stability to East Asia Region and denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said on Friday. Also, Shoukry stressed Egypt's commitment to getting rid of all weapons of mass destruction in the whole world, particularly in the Middle East. He made the remarks in a press conference following his participation in the Egyptian-Japanese Strategic Dialogue session, along with his Japanese counterpart. The session provided a good opportunity to review Egypt's endeavors to regain stability in the Middle East, through adopting multidimensional regional policy consistent with international efforts to deal with humanitarian and political crises in the region, Shoukry underlined. Egypt's regional policy is based on playing an active role in the Middle East peace process and working with all parties to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis, in addition to supporting efforts to rebuild national institutions in Yemen and Libya, he clarified. Egypt highly appreciates Japan's role to overcome challenges to the process of economic and social development in developing countries, especially in the Arab world and Africa, Shoukry noted. In his talks with Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono, Shoukry said he was pleased about visiting Japan for the third time, which reflects the great development in Egyptian-Japanese ties in recent years, as evidenced by the Japanese prime minister's visit to Cairo in 2015 and President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's visit to Tokyo in 2016. The strategic session comes within the framework of the two countries' keenness on pushing forward bilateral political consultation on regional and international issues of common concern. During his talks with Taro Kono, Shoukry thanked the Japanese government for its support of some national projects in Egypt, notably the Grand Egyptian Museum, due to be opened in 2020. At the end of the talks, Shoukry briefed Taro Kono on Egypt's ongoing efforts to combat terrorism at the political and security levels.
