CAIRO, August 8, 2018 - Minister of Planning Dr Hala el-Saeed met on Wednesday the Regional Director for Africa and Europe at the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), Dexippos Agourides, to discuss ways of increasing co-operation between the ministry and the GGGI over green growth and its connection to economic development. Discussions covered Egypt becoming a member of the GGGI so it could benefit from the institute's programmes. The GGGI is a treaty-based international organisation dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies with headquarters in the South Korean capital of Seoul. The aim of the GGGI is to promote green growth, a growth paradigm that is characterised by a balance of economic growth and environmental sustainability. The meeting also covered the possibility of organising a workshop this October under the title "Egypt's ability to transition to green growth". The aim of the workshop would be to define the concept of green growth and its role in implementing sustainable development goals. Minister el-Saeed said that the government was interested in depending on green growth in carrying out sustainable development and using its resources to support the targeted economic growth to reduce unemployment and achieve economic growth.
