CAIRO, Aug 2, 2018 (MENA) - Minister of Public Business Sector Hisham Tawfiq discussed with Minister of Agriculture Ezziddin Abu Steit major problems and challenges that face the spinning and weaving industry. These include all processes related to cotton planting and manufacturing and means to avoid the crop's pollution throughout various stages. The move comes in light of the outcome of the previous meetings that the public business sector minister held with Trade and Industry Minister Amr Nassar along with a number of cotton experts and manufacturers from both private and public sectors, said a statement by the Public Business Sector Ministry on Thursday. Tawfiq asserted that the political leadership attaches great importance to the development of the spinning and weaving industry. For his part, the agriculture minister highlighted the strategic importance of the cotton crop, saying that efforts must be made to restore the international prominence of the Egyptian cotton brand. Abu Steit underlined that his ministry has approved plans to plant short-staple cotton in areas that are far from zones where long-staple cotton is planted, in order to limit the import of short-staple cotton. Coordination meetings are to be maintained among the ministries concerned in the spinning and weaving sectors until solutions to the long-standing problems facing the cotton industry would be reached, he promised.
