Egypt keen on upgrading ICT sector

CAIRO, April 18, 2018 - The Egyptian Government is keen on supporting the information and technology sector in order to realize a qualitative push forward in the ITC field, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has affirmed on Wednesday.
The fresh reaffirmation has been made during a meeting between President Sisi and Mr. Stéphane Richard, the Chief Executive Officer of the Paris-based Orange Company, who is on an official visit to Cairo.
President Sisi highlighted that Egypt is looking forward to developing ongoing partnership with Orange in various fields related to the company's expertise and activities, including the manufacturing of electronics as well as improving the telecommunications services in compliance with the latest technologies that are being applied worldwide.
The President said that the improved communications services would help promote investments in Egypt, provide citizens with advanced services, and achieving economic inclusion, Ambassador Radi
.This economic inclusion, the President said, will help integrate various social classes into modern services and benefiting from them.
President Sisi praised the ongoing co-operation with Orange, stressing Egypt's keenness on benefiting from the company's potentials and capabilities in this field while taking into consideration the company's successful work experience in the Egyptian market.
During the meeting, Mr. Richard affirmed that Orange, which had been operating here for more than 20 years, was looking forward to widening the scope of its activities in Egypt, which he said was witnessing a better investment environment and a rapid economic growth.
President Sisi highlighted to Mr. Richard some of the giant projects that were being implemented in Egypt, referring in particular to the building of new smart cities nationwide.
He said that the government had launched a comprehensive plan for developing the IT sector, which plays a key role in the national development process, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
President Sisi also said that the company - through its investments and training programmes - could play a role in realising a qualitative push forward in the field of information technology and communications in Egypt.
The government is building technological zones nation wide to create jobs and attract foreign capital owners to lunch joint ventures here, he told Mr. Richard.
Noting that he has been closely following up the activities of the ICT sector, Mr. Richard expressed appreciation for achievements made and initiatives taken by President Sisi to develop this sector.
He said that these initiatives had helped the company's success and wident its activities in the Egyptian market during the past few years.
Mr. Richard also praised the overall investment climate in Egypt, saying that such climate reflected the government's keenness on achieving development and presenting high-quality services to the citizens.
Also discussed during the meeting between President Sisi and Mr. Richard was the company's participation in the on-going efforts towards developing the telecommunications infra-structures and manufacturing electronics through the use of advanced technologies, Ambassador Radi said.
