Tahya Masr Multipurpose Terminal receives 500 containers, 3 ships in trial operation

Tahya Masr Multipurpose Terminal in Alexandria Port (TMT) has received 500 containers and 3 ships, bringing the total to more than 1,000 containers during the first half of February, as part of the trial operation of the terminal.
Egypt's Ministry of Transport said in a Saturday statement that the terminal will play a vital role in transforming the Alexandria Port into a regional and global hub for trade and logistics.
Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir said that the terminal is considered one of the most important projects implemented by the ministry in the field of maritime transport.
It includes trading yards of half a million square metres, and it is divided into 3 stations (containers – general goods – cars), and is capable of handling from 12 to 15 million tons of goods annually.
Tahya Misr Multipurpose Terminal can accommodate from 6 to 7 ships with large tonnages at the same time, the length of the station's berths is estimated at about 2500 longitudinal metres and a width of 35 metres, which qualifies it to receive ships with large tonnages.
With capacity for over two million tons of goods a year, the terminal is expected to boost the port's annual revenues by $50m, shorten waiting times for ships docking at the port, create investment opportunities, and establish 4,500 direct and indirect job opportunities.
Moreover, the terminal will play a vital role in Egypt's modern transport sector, as a key linking chain in the upcoming $4.45bn high-speed electric rail line, which will link the Red Sea Port of Ain Sokhna to the Mediterranean Ports of Alexandria and Marsa Matrouh. The terminal will also supply the upcoming dry port in the 6th of October Industrial City as well as the logistics centre associated with the Alexandria Port.
The Ministry of Transport had started in early 2020 the construction of the terminal, where the stages of implementing the infrastructure and superstructure works were started.
