Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met on Sunday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali Al-Moselhi to review the position of strategic food commodities and follow up on their availability in markets nationwide.
Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation ElSayed ElKosayer and Director-General of the National Service Projects Authority for the Armed Forces Walid Abul-Magd also attended the meeting, according to Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady.
Rady said that the meeting dealt with the position of the strategic stock of all basic food commodities for the state, especially wheat, rice, sugar, oil, meat, poultry, and fish.
The ministers emphasised that there is no problem in providing these commodities to citizens within the framework of the state's prior planning to maintain the continuity of the strategic stock of them for a period of no less than six months.
The president then directed to maintain the continuity of the state's strategic stock of major food commodities and to follow up on their market prices in order to meet the needs of citizens in the appropriate quantities and prices and to make them available at government and catering outlets at the level of the republic.
The meeting also included reviewing the state's efforts to expand the production of fertilisers, as it is one of the most important inputs affecting the maximisation of agricultural production and food security.
Moreover, Al-Sisi directed to strengthen the fertiliser production system and make it available to the local market as per the state's plans for agricultural production and for horizontal and vertical land reclamation to cover food needs.
