The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced Tuesday that Egypt's trade deficit reached $2.88bn during July 2021, down from $3.37bn in July 2020, a decrease of 14.6%. Egypt's exports increased by 31.5% to $2.94bn during July 2021, versus $2.24bn for the same month of previous year, due to an increase in the value of some commodities, such as plastics in primary form by 58%, pasta and food preparations by 51.5%, ready-made clothes by 23.3%, and fertilizers by 17.7%. Meanwhile, the value of other exported commodities decreased during July 2021, such as fresh fruits 5.8%, medicines and pharmaceutical preparations by 7.2%, soap and cleaning preparations by 1.0%, and articles of plastics by 9.4%. Egypt's imports value also increased by 3.8% to $5.82bn during July 2021, versus $5.61bn for the same month of previous year, due to increased value of some commodities, such as cars by 41.0%, medicines and pharmaceutical preparations by 34.2%, plastics in primary form by 14.6 %, and corn by 3.2%. The value of other imported commodities decreased in July 2021, such as crude oil by 14.3%, organic and inorganic chemicals by 22.5%, soybeans by 36.7%, and meat by 35.3%.
